GDP of Abu Dhabi hits Dh688.3b on industrial sector performance

The final results of six major surveys, conducted in the emirate for the year 2007-08, which covered a vast range of economic activities, were released yesterday by the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi.

The survey suggests that last year Abu Dhabi's gross domestic product (GDP) was Dh688.3 billion, of which the industrial sector represented 65.5 per cent, construction activities represented 11.4 per cent, while commercial and financial activities made up the remaining share.

Under the survey, the chief economic activities such as banks, insurance, money exchange, and financial brokerage companies, industrial sectors such as extraction, manufacturing industries, electricity, water and services sectors, all were covered.

The results of the survey revealed that the total manpower comes to 092,573, working in 67,546 establishments.

"The construction and services sectors have the two biggest shares, with 34.6 per cent and 24.5 per cent respectively, followed by the commercial sector, 18.2 per cent, the industrial sector, 14.5 per cent, and lastly the financial and TCS sectors, representing 6.6 per cent, and 1.6 per cent respectively," said the results.
