Pentagon officials announced that to compensate for six years without fee range increases, the Defense Department is adjusting its child care fees, adding categories for its highest income earners.
Barbara Thompson, the director of the office of family policy, children and youth said that the schedule will go into effect by September 30. Three categories have been added by the department's Military and Community Family Policy Office.
She informed that specific guidelines will be issued by each service and this includes fee schedule’s exceptions, and within the policy office’s ranges adopting fees.
Everyone with a total family income of $70,001 or more in the previous fee schedule, was in Category VI, which has been in effect since 2004. An average of $124 per child per week was paid by this category.
It was seen that fees was not in tune with the inflation and family income and changes were recommended after two years of study.
Thompson said, "We understand that these are tough economic times for families, but we did this very deliberately after careful study. When you look at what you're getting for your child care fees, it's a wonderful opportunity in a high-quality care environment."
