Indian SMBs are concerned about data protection, Symantec

sbmA survey report from the security solutions provider, Symantec has shown that the small and medium businesses (SMBs) in the country are increasingly getting concerned about ways to protect information from various threats.

The Symantec 2010 Global SMB Information Protection Survey showed that about two third of the Indian SMBs and alarmed about their threats to their data and taking various steps enhancing backup, recovery and archiving initiatives.

Last year a similar survey from the comoany titled, ‘Symantec 2009 Security and Storage survey’ has showed that some enterprises lacked even basic security tools like anti-Virus where as this year they are deploying information protections tools.

Symantec Head (Channel and Alliances) Vineet Sood said, “The impact of losing critical business information is detrimental for SMBs and can result in damaged reputation and revenue losses.”

About 80 per cent of the respondents said that they have deployed backup and recovery tools while 51 per cent respondents said that they are using advanced technologies.

The SBMs spend about USD 3,000annually for information technology on an average when compared to average spends of USD 12,500 in the Asia Pacific including Japan region.

The survey included SBMs with the employee strength in between 10 to 499. The security firm outlined the need for security systems for the firms in order to protect their information.
