Adult stem cell studies takes lead

Adult stem cell studies takes leadStem cells that are being studied by doctors for long and many innovative therapies have been tried by experts. Dr. Thomas Einhorn, chairman of orthopedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center, a few months ago was treating a patient with a broken ankle. The ankle showed no signs of getting healed. The doctor resorted to the patient’s body for healing the ankle.

Bone marrow from the man's pelvic bone with a needle was drawn by Einhorn. He then condensed it to about four teaspoons of rich red liquid, which was then injected into his ankle.

The ankle took four months but it was healed. Einhorn states that a French research made him try the therapy.

Einhorn’s experience stands as an example of various innovative therapies doctors are studying with adult stem cells.

Several experts stated that there was a wide range of potential treatments available.

People who are suffering from diabetes, heart problems, and multiple sclerosis, are subjects of stem cells studies.

Dr. David Scadden of Harvard, who notes stem cells are also used to grow skin grafts said, "That's really one of the great success stories of stem cell biology that gives us all hope."
