RIM might launch its tablet, BlackPad in November

RIM might launch its tablet, BlackPad in NovemberCanada based Research in Motion (RIM) which is the maker of popular BlackBerry family of smartphones might be getting ready to launch its own tablet computer called ‘BlackPad’ in November this year to compete with Apple’s iPad and others.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the BlackPad will feature WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and will be similar in dimensions to the iPad. Users will be able to tab the interwebs through BlackBerry handsets.

The company has also acquired the rights to use blackpad. com which indicated that the name will be used for the tablet. Apple sells iPad for $499 and reports suggest the RIM tablet might cost just as much.

Some reports also suggest that the tablet will feature two cameras, one at the front and the other at rear for videoconferencing. Bloomberg suggests that it will not offer cellular network access like iPad.

Meanwhile, the comoany is expected to host an event on New York next week to announce the launch of BlackBerry 9800 slider phone with touch screen capabilities and a physical keyboard. RIM has also started working on a new version of BlackBerry App World which is the app store for Blackberry devices.
