Reports state that there has been a rise in pregnant women planning a home birth ad the rise is three times.
Experts state that home births are more risky than hospital deliveries and puts babies’ life in danger. This happens because an emergency can not be treated at home as compared to a hospital which is equipped to do so.
Babies born at home often die of breathing problems or a heart problem.
This has pushed the average number of babies dying from 0.3 per 1000 births to 1 per 1000 births.
Reports stated, “Women have the right to choose how and where to give birth, but they do not have the right to risk their baby’s life.”
About 1.5 per cent of births in Scotland take place at home.
However, last summer after a team of midwives dedicated to home births was launched there was a marked increase in Glasgow.
Anna Clayton-Jones, an expectant mother from Edinburgh who is planning a home birth, said, “I do understand that there is a slight increased risk but the figures are just so small and it is a much calmer environment for the baby. Those who are born at home have a much better experience.”
