A new study has stated that kids who are autistic can be choosy eaters but it in no way affects their growth that leads to impairment.
About 79 kids were studied in the UK and they had autism spectrum disorders or ASD and another 13,000 autism-free children were also studied. These kids were aged seven and less. It was noted that despite kids with ASD were picky eaters but their calorie and nutrients intake was equal to kids without ASD.
No major difference was noted in the height and weight of these kids.
Dr. Pauline Emmett, a senior research fellow at the University of Bristol in the UK, said, "We think that these are reassuring findings, and that in general, parents of children with ASD symptoms need not worry that their children will not grow properly."
Autism spectrum disorders mean that a child would face difficulty in building relationships and communicating but it has nothing to do with eating.
Researchers also state that they have not been able to establish picky eating to development and growth.
