The developer of software for users to watch videos from Internet on TV, Boxee is all set to launch its set-top box in the coming few months.
Zach Klein, the chief product officer at Boxee released a video that shows a production prototype of the set-top box called Boxee Box. He expressed that the company is working with Taiwanese company D-Link for manufacturing the device and it will be released in a few months.
The company had earlier said that the box will be leased in December last year. The Boxee Box will feature a dual-core ARM A9 low-power CPU and a NVIDIA graphics chip. It will be based on the NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform and the box will be able to play 1080p video content.
It will be capable of playing HD content that is saved locally and also stream live form the internet. It will also have a Broadcom chip enabling 802.11n wireless networking. The Boxee Box will come packed with a RF remote control. The users will be able to watch movies, TV shows, music and photos and also stream live media from various content providers like Netflix, MLB. TV, Comedy Central, Pandora, Last. fm, and flickr.
The Boxee Box is expected to be priced at around $180.
