CEO Eric Schmidt has earlier announced the Google’s intention to stop the production of the device and also that it will now produce a second device a based on the platform.
“Congratulations – we’re stopping. We like that flexibility, we think that flexibility is characteristic of nimbleness at our scale,” he said.
Google will also offer the phone to registered Android developers via its Android Market Publisher site. The company will sell the device through partner. Eric Schmidt says that Nexus One was "so successful, we didn't have to do a second one."
Google was competing with its own Android partners with the device and some of them were not convenient about it. The device was launched in early January and the company was selling through traditional carrier channels. The company will continue to offer support for those who have bought the device.
