Avandia under uncertainty

Avandia under uncertaintyAfter the FDA review panel allowed letting Avandia to stay in the U. S. market, pharmaceutical industry critics displayed frustration. This happened despite evidences that Avandia posses risk of strokes and heart attacks.

GlaxoSmithKline, maker of Avandia, has been alleged of hiding evidence of clinical nature from the Food and Drug Administration. Avandia is currently one of the best resorts for treating diabetes but it is being stated that Avandia is not safe for consumption.

Out of the 33-member advisory committee, about 12 members voted for pulling out Avandia from the market following the risks it poses. But there were others who voted for it to remain in the market but with restrictions.

There is political pressure on the FDA to pull out the drug from the market as the finding of the panel voting for and against Avandia remains mixed.

Patients who are relying on Avandia, as it once was the best drug available in the market for treating diabetes, are expecting that the drug is made available to them easily else about two million Americans would be deprived who continued to take Avandia last year.
