Dave Girouard, president of Google’s enterprise unit has laid emphasis on the importance of cloud based computing and described it as the single most important change to have happened in the Information Technology industry recently.
He said that emerging countries are transforming and building cloud based services. The company’s engineering centers in India now focus on building technologies for cloud computing. Google aims to make India its ‘global hub’ for its enterprise cloud computing operations. Google will ramp up its team of enterprise cloud engineers in Bangalore.
“We have been running very successful R&D operations in search, maps and other products out of Bangalore, while our enterprise team was almost fully functioning out of Hyderabad. Now, we will be increasing the number of enterprise engineers here, who, along with our team in Hyderabad, would strengthen our cloud computing operations for the enterprise segment in the world,” said Google India R&D Director & Country Head Peeyush Ranjan.
Google has about 300 enterprise engineers in Bangalore who work for its cloud business with its other global divisions. The company will now boost the resources of its Bangalore team and strengthen its R&D team boost towards enterprises.
Girouard also confirmed that Google will continue its efforts to make India its global hub for enterprise business. The enterprise services will bring enhances services to generally available Google products and other services for business use.
Google will also work towards addressing security and reliability concerns that businesses associate with the cloud based services. Girouard says that the enterprise business contributes just a small percentage of the revenue of Google and it is growing very rapidly. He expects the the segment to offer opportunities for tens of billions of dollars.
As for competition he said that Microsoft is certainly a challenge in the sector but Google with its unique services can be a step ahead.
