West Nile Virus reported

West Nile Virus reportedThe Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee health departments who estimate over 1,000 mosquitoes collected per night in a single location are reporting West Nile virus. About 100 were estimated statewide by Maricopa County, Arizona.

Death of an old lady due to the WNV was reported by Maricopa.

Birds and horses are infected by WNV and it then gets transmitted through mosquitoes to humans, especially the Asian Tiger mosquito plays the dangerous channel.

Truck spraying the community is useful but it is more important to eliminate the source of mosquito breeding and it is standing water.

People all over the affected area are being urged by concerned officials to eliminate all possible sources of mosquitoes to breed, wear light coloured clothing when outdoors, and using a repellant.

People have been asked to immediately report if they notice a dead cow, ravens, magpies, raptors or blue birds. About vaccines and boosters, horse owners should consult their veterinarian.

There would be mild flu-like symptoms among people who are infected y the WNV. But in some cases the virus can prove fatal too and can also manifest as meningitis or encephalitis.
