FSA to be abolished today

FSAIt seems that the Health Secretary is going too soft on junk food industry after it was known that the food Standards Agency (FSA) will come to an end today. Andrew Lansley will confirm about FSA being scrapped when he sets out plans to overhaul the NHS.

There is a possibility that doctors would not support this step as they have called for ‘fat taxes’ to be implied on unhealthy food. There will be a £1bn cut in the cost of bureaucracy, according to Lansley.

The staff of FSA totals to 2,000 and the annual budget stand at £135m. The Department for Health and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, will now be doing FSA’s duties.

The Tories face accusations that they are biased towards junk-food companies after it was known that FSA is being brought to an end.

Today Lansley will finally let out the much-awaited white paper that has plans to abolish FSA as part of a 'bonfire of quangos'.

Doctors would the ones who would be raged the most as recently they had said that ‘fat taxes’ should be applicable on food that is not healthy to ensure that such foods are taken occasionally.

Andy Burnham, shadow health secretary and Labour leadership candidate, said, “It is starting to look as though Mr Lansley has caved in to the food industry.”
