According to reports NHS is coming up with changes in its policy which is being outlined where Doctors will play major roles in most of the health services. They will be entrusted with more responsibilities.
As a part of the plan sum amounting to almost £80 million would possibly be received by family doctors, strategic health authorities, and primary care trusts
General Practitioners would need to organize round the clock service under the plan.
The changes are being made in the government white paper will be published in the coming week. They are made in accordance to the belief of the Government that the General Practitioners are the best to understand patient’s needs and they are the best person to suggest about the places where money should be spends in Health Care.
The government fears about the family doctors being reluctant to take on the role or may not be having the required skill. Some people in the government have come up with questions of accountability.
At present there are over 150 primary care trusts and strategic health authorities, which supervise NHS trusts and oversee local NHS services.
Currently funds are allocated by the Government to local trusts. The local trusts in turn, pay for patients in their respective area to be treated in hospital. Under the new proposals, doctors, and not the local trusts would receive the money and pay hospitals directly for referrals.
According to a spokes person in the Department of Health details of the plans which is patient friendly will be published in a white paper very shortly.
The health Secretary in a recent speech had clearly stated that the patients will be made involved in sharing their decisions about their care and treatment. No decision without the patient’s consent will be taken
The Health Secretary had laid emphasis on the need to set free NHS so that it can focus on the outcomes and improving results for patients.
