Researchers have stated that your genes can actually define how long would you live. However, they have also cautioned that having good genes do not mean that a good diet and exercise routine is not followed.
Researchers stated in an online edition that most centenarians were found to have similar genetic that led to surviving into old age.
Paola Sebastiani and Thomas T. Perls of Boston University who led the study noted that these findings however do not point to having a quick test to determine someone’s living prospects as maintaining a healthy lifestyle was an important factor.
Perls however noticed that these findings can be used to figure out chances of knowing how vulnerable one is to certain diseases so that a therapy for controlling what is about to happen in some cases can be tried.
The genomes of 1,055 Caucasians born between 1890 and 1910 were looked at by researchers and these genomes were then compared with 1,267 people born later.
Researchers after making observations were successful in figuring which gene groups came from people over 100 by about 77 per cent.
Sebastiani said, "Seventy-seven percent is very high accuracy for a genetic model. But 23 percent error rate also shows there is a lot that remains to be discovered."
