A man who experienced a heart attack on the Grouse Grind Friday afternoon has passed away.
Emergency crews were given a call to the one-quarter mark of the popular hiking trail on Grouse Mountain just after 1:30 p. m. for a man at first believed to be having a convulsion, according to Assistant Fire Chief, Jim Bonneville of North Vancouver Fire Rescue Service.
Three lifeguards tried CPR on the man, seemed to have been in his late 50s, until fire rescue and paramedics arrived at the location.
Bonneville said that the fire crews and paramedics then took over the charge of the situation and worked on him for some time to no advantage.
He was in full arrest. The coroner came after he was brought down.
The testing terrain and crowds of citizens made it tricky to navigate, Bonneville said.
It was quite demanding, with all the people. It was fairly busy and steady. There was as well the sharpness, and the squad had been fully trying to carry all the mechanism in and people out.
