Disorders in Fetus Detected by a Blood Test

Blood-TestIt has been reported that for verifying whether an unborn child has Down syndrome or other infections, an easy and minute blood test can be of help and it can become a safer substitute for it. This is a very simple blood test, which requires a blood sample from a pregnant lady and tests the fetus’s DNA.

The price of this test is just $36, and within a span of four years, it will be accessible. Being so simple and cheap, this test can be very useful, to identify several genetic abnormalities in fetuses. Yet, despite of its advantages being a less invasive way to detect these disorders, it is also suspected to increase the number of abortions, thus augmenting anxiety amidst pro-life advocates.

Dr. Suzanna Frints, of Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands, said, “When we succeed in developing the procedure for use in maternal blood, we will be able to offer a safe, cheap, fast, reliable and accurate non-invasive test, which will be of immediate benefit to pregnant women, young and old, all over the world”.

It has been said that the earlier tests for the Down syndromes in unborn child, are very risky; whereas, if this new test becomes successful, it can become a safer alternative to those. Even though this procedure gives accurate results, yet, it is also claimed that this test can hike the threat of a miscarriage for the women.
