Nursing Jobs to be Cut in the Health Sector

Nursing-JobsNearly 500 jobs are expected to be cut from the payroll at Addenbrooke's Hospital, in the next financial year. Up to 200 jobs are to be lost in the next two years. This job cut in health sector has raised the concerns of people affected.

There are about 7,000 people employed by the trust. The Chief Executive of the Hospital, Gareth Goodier has said that 170 nursing posts are estimated to be cut.

Cllr Geoff Heathcock, Chairman of Cambridge Shire County Councils Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee, has also expressed his concerns about the recruitment freeze.

Heathcock also seemed concern about the jobs of the people, who have spent their life in the service of people. He said that Addenbrooke’s hospital will be soon asked to disclose the cause of job cuts.

"If they lose this volume of experienced nursing staff, we need to know what measures are in place to protect the level of care received by patients”, said Geoff.

He said that because of financial shrinking, unnecessary administrative jobs should be cut first, only the staff in the hospitals and medicare should be squeezed.

Cambridge University Hospital has said that more efficient and better methods should be found out to deal with the financial problems in the country.
