A tropical storm shaking up its way in the Caribbean is the latest terrible news for crews, who have been trying to contain and clean up the enormous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, an attempt that was beleaguered by setbacks for more than two months.
Tropical Storm Alex, packing 65-m.p.h. winds, was lashing Belize late on Saturday and is anticipated to cross land today and enter the Gulf, by tonight. Forecasters are of the opinion that it is still too early to give exact details of where it will go or how it may have an effect on the oil on and below the surface of the Gulf.
But, any system with winds of more than 46 M.P.H. may perhaps, force BP to dump efforts to stop the gusher. BP would have to shift ships and the rigs drilling two relief wells, which means that oil would be gushing generously into the gulf once more.
Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said on Saturday that officials are shriveling Alex cautiously, even though the existing forecast depicts that it is churning towards Mexico and missing the northern gulf coast and the spill.
If that is the real case, then it would be of great help to all involved in action.
