Weight Loss Surgery More Effective With Family Members

Weight Loss Surgery More Effective With Family MembersA research study has found that when weight loss surgery becomes a family affair, people are more likely to work hard to lose the maximum amount of weight. It was found that in cases where two family members like a husband and wife, a parent and child or two siblings are undergoing weight loss surgery, they will lose more weight, as compared to cases where there is only one person undergoing this type of surgery.

It was stressed that family support is one of the most important reasons that people, who undergo this type of surgery with their family members, tend to do well after the surgery. Researchers also feel that the first year is the most important year after surgery, as people have to make significant changes in their lifestyle and eating patterns.

Almost 91 patients, who got weight loss surgery along with a family member, were compared to people who underwent these surgeries alone. All the various parameters like age, gender and body mass index (BMI) were measured for this study.

It was found that after six months of surgery, patients who underwent these surgeries with family members were able to lose more weight, as compared to patients who went alone for the surgery. People who underwent surgery with their siblings lost almost 86% of their excess weight, while people who went alone were able to lose 60% of their excess weight.
