Teenagers More Likely to Drink

Drinking SociallyA study has found that drinking culture is prevalent in some of the schools, where the majority of the students are white and middle class. It has also, revealed that teenagers are most likely to drink alcohol and consume it frequently, in case they are white or non-religious. The details of this report have been published on the website of the Department for Education.

The study mainly analyzed the alcohol consumption patterns of 14-17 year old children and the impact it had on their overall behavior. It was found that almost 55% of the teenagers had experimented with alcohol by the age of 14 and it also confirmed that girls were more likely to consume alcohol, as compared to boys.

When they reach the age of 17, almost 85% of the teenagers have already consumed alcohol. The report also raised serious concerns about drinking in the schools.

Researchers found that schools with majority of white children were more likely to provide an environment, where other children were also encouraged to drink alcohol. It did not matter whether these children received free school meals or not, they were still likely to experiment with alcohol.

It was also stressed that even if a teenager had not taken alcohol by the age of 15, factors like    shoplifting, visiting parties and pubs, smoking and experimenting with cannabis were signs that they will be experimenting with alcohol in the coming days.
