Ahmedabad's Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital Still Without Power Back-Up

It appears that the Vadilal Sarabhai hospital has not learned any lessons from prior occurrences of power breakdown.

On Friday, the life of a patient undertaking angioplasty at the Cathlab, was put at danger, because of the dearth of a generator support when the power went off.

The power cut that took place from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm, left several patients struggling for breath.

Leader of Opposition in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Surendra Baxi, posed questions over the VS Hospital authorities' reckless behavior.

Baxi said that fortunately, the angioplasty got completed in 15 minutes of the power breakdown, and devoid of any problems. But, it is essential that they should have sets of generators to sustain medical gear in occurrence of electricity failure.

He questioned, “Why is the hospital putting patients' lives at risk with their indifferent attitude?"

He remarked that in VS Hospital, only the recently launched trauma centre has generator back-up. Even the burns unit is not supported by generators, leaving sufferers in agony at the time of power breakdown.

Baxi also pointed that in spite of the legal date for the monsoon to start in has passed, the civic body chiefs have not put an end to the excavating work being conducted in several locations.
