According to scientists the chances of swingers getting sexually transmitted diseases are higher than prostitutes .Swinger are straight couples who swaps sexual partners regularly and indulge in group sex in the organized parties.

According to study by Dutch researchers the older swingers having age more than 45 years are more vulnerable and they are most ignored by the health care services.

The scientist feel that there was a risk of this untreated group causing sexual transmitted disease to the entire population by just acting as the bridge as the number of swingers can be millions’

Anne-Marie Niekamp who is a researcher said that the swinger’s population is quite large.

This was based on the analysis done in 2007-08 on the numbers of patients who sought treatment at three sexual health clinics in South Limburg in the Netherlands.

The clinics have recorded whether a patient is swinger since the start of 2007 to keep track of infection rates among this group.

During the study period one in every nine patients out of 9.000 patients treated in the clinics turned out to be a swinger. The average age was 43.

The combined rate of Gonorrhea and Chlamydia were just over 10% amongst straight people. The percentage being 14 in case of gay men and just mere 5% incase of prostitutes. Female swingers had higher infection rates than male swingers

Every one in 10 of older swingers had gonorrhea and one in every twenty had Chlamydia.

Chlamydia is the most common STD among women and in 70% of the cases no symptoms is manifested. This infection can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. Infertility and ectopic pregnancy. Gonorrhea can also cause infertility, if not treated.

Niekamp added saying that it is difficult to target swingers and give them advice and help as the swingers are a hidden community.
