An environmentalist from Cook Islands has revealed that people, who eat fish, are at increased risk of getting mercury poisoning. She also confirmed that people living near the Pacific Island and eating fish are also at a very high risk.
She has recently returned from Sweden, where she attended talks for signing a treaty on mercury control across the planet.
She also confirmed that mercury poisoning can also lead to serious neurological problems in people, who eat high amounts of fish. She confirmed that she herself has more than three times the levels of mercury in her body even though she had significantly reduced the amount of fish in her diet.
She argued that reducing the amount of fish in their diet is not an option for millions of people, who depend on fish in their diet.
She also feels World Health Organization needs to find out the amount of mercury in the bodies of people living in Pacific Islands.
