Campaigners Unhappy Over Health Departments Slogan “Breast Is Best”

Breast FeedingPeople are campaigning against the administration's slogan for breastfeeding, which says "breast is best" .Campaigners are of the view that mothers are not being motivated by this slogan.

The Breastfeeding Network is keen on promoting breastfeeding as a norm but not as something exceptional. Research reveals that the babies, who are breast fed, have less chances of becoming overweight, as compared to the babies which are not breast fed.

However, the Department of Health discloses that it is carrying out Government's orders.

Chair of The Breastfeeding Network, Lesley Backhouse, has reportedly written to the Department of Health regarding a change in the slogan. She disclosed that breastfeeding should not be promoted as something special because it is a biological norm, as it is the usual way of feeding the babies.

She further added that it is the only norm, which is not mandatory. Backhouse expressed the need to spread awareness among the mothers that breastfeeding is simple and free and it is also the standard way of feeding a baby.

The Department of Health recognizes the advantages of breastfeeding but it states that this slogan has not been made by them.

A Spokesperson of the Department said that breastfeeding is beneficial for the baby and also extremely easy. She also said that it is important to help women in order to make breastfeeding a good experience, both for the mother and the baby.
