After giving excess amount of morphine doses to 18 dying patients, Dr. Howard Martin of GP has said that he was using his judgments and carefulness and that his conscience was also clear.

According to the General Medical Council, he acted this way on the scantiest of evidence of intolerable pain. In an extraordinary confession, Dr. Howard Martin admitted giving lethal doses of painkillers to dozens of elderly and incurably ill patients.

In year 2005, Dr. Martin was cleared of killing three patients. But the General Medical Council still pursued with him after his serious misconduct.

He has now confessed that he had hasten the deaths of dozen of patients, without their consent. He also administered the final injection to his own son, Paul, 31, who died of cancer in the year 1988.

During his triple murder trial, he did not utter about his conduct but he broke his silence after he put the lives of several people in danger, on Friday. He claimed that he did so out of Christian compassion and was just trying to reduce the sufferings of the patients.

`I twice helped people die, not because they wanted to die but because they had such dreadful suffering", he said.
