Foreign Doctor Killed an Elderly Patient Because of Negligence

Foreign DoctorA foreign doctor on his first and only shift in Britain; injected David Gray, 70, with 100mg of a painkiller dose, which was 10 times the recommended amount.

Dr. Daniel Ubani came into the UK from Germany and was struck off the British medical register yesterday but he can still work out of the country.

A few hours after being injected with the massive overdose of diamorphine, Mr. Gray died on February 16 2008.

The panel of General Medical Council was concluded by the statement that it had grave concerns about Dr. Ubani's medical proficiency in his treatment of three patients and also said that there is a risk that he will repeat the errors.

Yesterday, the panel said that suspension was not adequate in this case. Panel Chairman, Dr. Brian Alderman said, "In all the circumstances the panel is satisfied that erasure is the only means of protecting patients and maintaining public confidence in the profession".

Dr. Ubani, 67, has done his specialization in cosmetic medicine in Germany and he has admitted causing the death of Mr. Grey after confusing the morphine with another medicine.

The panel of GMC has also heard that Dr. Ubani was suspended for nine months in Germany for death by carelessness, but still pursued as a doctor in that country.
