In order to endorse road safety in the region, more than hundreds of Doncaster students came up to do their bit in the cause. This effort of the youngsters was compiled in the road safety charity Brake's Giant Walking Bus scheme.
Out of the 360 kids from Armthorpe Tranmoor Primary School, 260 of them participated in this crusade, along with several other youngsters of the city. The Head teacher, Sheila Bean said that this campaign was to promote and encourage the kids that they must walk safely to the school.
This was done by a kind of demonstration shown to the students, who were taken out for a walk, from where they returned back to the school safely, campaigning in between on the roads.
Sheila Bean said, "It is all to do with raising awareness, and it is something we regard as important at the school. We are fortunate in that there are 20mph speed limits around the school here and that is a huge help for us, and obviously we hope the drivers abide by those limits".
Studies have shown that in the UK, every 20 minutes, a kid on foot is either injured or has to face death on road. Also, people were informed about the benefits of walking and the dangerous effects of high-speed driving.
