A trend has been seen that more grievances of unhappiness, mood swings, anxiety and loss of appetite are reported from the mothers, soon after birth. This is known as the post-natal depression and has been witnessed in around one in ten new mothers.
There are some "feel-good" chemicals that come from the release of an enzyme in brain. These enzymes are coincided by a swift decline in the oestrogen levels following the birth, thus blocking the chemicals, also.
On the other hand, if this enzyme is released regularly, then it breaks down serotonin and dopamine, and thus can result in contentment. But, the low level can be injurious and can lead to more depression blues.
From the MPI for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Dr. Julia Sacher said, "Our results have the exciting potential for prevention for severe postpartum blues. This could have an impact on prevention and treatment of postpartum depression in the future".
There are a few medicines, which can increase the release of this enzyme and thus the chemicals also that are broken down by it. The examination including 100 women who lately went through pregnancy, it was found that 75% were found to be predicted with post-natal depression.
