Efforts of S'pore Blood Donors Awarded on Blood Donor DayThe noble efforts of approximately 1500 people and groups were acknowledged in Singapore.

Reports claim that all the blood donors were given awards as a mark of appreciation for their support of the National Blood Program.

The awards were given to mark the celebrations of the World Blood Donor Day.

Giving special emphasis to the people who had contributed majorly by donating blood more than 200 times, for the very first time, three donors were awarded the 'Medals For Life'.

Further, as a part of the celebrations, the 'Blood Donor Tree' was also introduced.

By the way of the project, 'Blood Donor Tree', specials focus would be laid at adjudging the largest family of blood donors in Singapore.

A new initiative, Youth Ambassador Program, was launched by Singapore's Youth Donor Club. The initiative aims at increasing awareness among the students about the immense importance of blood donation.

As per the figures, about 100,000 units of blood are needed by Singapore, every year.

Figures reveal that from the year 2001, an increasing trend has been witnessed in the pool of blood donors. The number of regular donors has increased to over 60,000 in 2009 from 40,000.
