Mentally Ill Patients Do Not Get Necessary Medical and Social Support

Mentally Ill Patients Do Not Get Necessary Medical and Social SupportFor the children with serious mental illness, surviving in the society is a challenge.

On one hand, where patients suffering from any other disease can be taken care of in various health care facilities or by family friends and neighbors, parents of children suffering from mental illness cannot rely on any facility for appropriate care.

Even in the hospitals, people suffering from cancer are given extra attention, but mentally upset patients are not treated in the same manner.

This isolates the patient and the families, as well. This in turn, results in exceptionally bad consequences for the individuals, families and thereby, affects the society on the whole.

It is surprising to know that out of 1,400 homeless people in the city, about 40% suffer mental illness and 50% are addicted.

This is an issue of great concern as 800 of these mentally ill people end up in streets, since they do not get enough support from the families and from the hospitals for treatment.

It is noticeable, that it is not easy treating mentally troubled people, as unlike other patients, they can refuse to help and medication.

According to the doctors, the patients who should be treated in hospitals are not provided psychiatric beds and the community support, as well.

This implies that there is need of more attention care to the patients, who deserve it the most.
