WHO takes action to Protect Women from Tobacco related Diseases

In order to safeguard women and girls against the disease and suffering caused by using tobacco, the World Health Organization has called for "global action". It is said that the health organization's plan to take this action comes before the international launch of World No Tobacco Day on May 31.

WHO Director General, Margaret Chan said tobacco use is "neither liberating nor glamorous," but is instead "addictive and deadly”.

According to the United Nations agency, women represent the prime possible development market for tobacco products and are being subjected to antagonistic marketing campaigns, particularly in progressing nations.

It has been said by WHO that Governments require to prohibit promotion and advertising of tobacco and get rid of smoking of tobacco in all public and work places.

According to the agency, study in half of the 151 nations surveyed for tobacco trends amid youngsters showed that girls' use of tobacco products was equivalent to boys.

It was reported by WHO that compared to boys more girls were found using tobacco in some nations, including Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Cook Islands, Croatia, Czech Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria and Uruguay.

It has been estimated by WHO that because of second-hand smoke female account for 64 percent of the 430,000 adult deaths.  

It has been revealed by WHO that, nearly 1.5 million women are amongst the five million people who die because of tobacco use annually.
