Toddler seen smoking, father says he is addicted

Toddler smokingA video of smoking toddler on YouTube is garnering a lot of criticism from people.

In the clip 2-year-old Sumatran Ardi Rizal is seen smoking. People have stated that "His parents should be jailed ..."

Rizal's parents when contacted stated that the toddler throws tantrums when he is refused a smoke. His father Mohammad Rizal said that he is not worried about his health as the child looks healthy.

A reporter who had visited the toddler's home in the fishing village of Musi Banyuasin, in Indonesia's South Sumatra province, had seen him smoking.

Reports say that Rizal is not the first child seen smoking. In March, a video of a 4-year-old Indonesian boy blowing smoke rings appeared on YouTube.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency states that in Indonesia about 25 per cent of Indonesian children who are three-to-15 years of age have tried cigarettes and 3.2 per cent of those are active smokers.

Health Minister Endang Sedyaningsih said, "Turning young people off smoking will be difficult in a country where it is perceived as positive because cigarette companies sponsor everything from scholarships to sporting events."
