The state of Michigan has banned public smoking and the ban went into effect at 6 evening on May 1. It may note that Governor Jennifer Granholm signed the law several months ago after it was apparent the citizens of Michigan wanted the law. Several countries have asked for extra funds to help enforce the law as Michigan is the 38th state to implement such a drastic law. As the resort, bar and restaurants brace to go smoke free, owners have had to put up “no smoking “ signs on each of the rooms. They have also put up signs to clarify which areas are designated smoking areas and McGuire’s resort that have already been smoke free for a year now, welcomes the move. It says it has received positive feedback from smokers and non smokers alike and has seen more families come to enjoy the restaurant, with some of the guest rooms still allowed for smoking.
It may be noted that the ban is meant to shield non smokers from harmful second hand smoke and comes as no surprise to smokers being upset with the new law. The clubs are not open to the general public, and they should have a right to make up their own rules, said several private clubs who have petitioned state law makers to exclude their institutions from the ban.
