Quit-SmokingThe smoking ban which starts on May 1 , in one week , Michigan will join the history books as the 38th state to ban smoking in most public places. While others dread the day they can’t light up inside bars and restaurants, some are excited about the ban. According to the state, secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death in Michigan, resulting in about 2,500 deaths a year. Most of them agrees that the smoking ban will impact businesses all over Michigan and some fear it would drive customers away, while others think it would actually help attract new patrons.

Kevin Bosley, the General Manger of Redwood Lodge, said “Probably one of the only places in Genesee County that's set up as a cigar bar. Separated off from our main dining room up front. So we're excited about it. We really are." After the cigarette smoke clears, Bosley hopes business will boom. He also believes that people will get accustom to the change after sometime passes. He added, “I think people will get used to it. You know, it's just like anything. New rules and laws. It takes awhile, but then people adjust to it."

It may be noted that the Michigan Legislature passed the long delayed smoking ban in December.
