Prohibition on Smoking in Public Places in Michigan, U.S. Comes Into Effect on May 1

Prohibition on Smoking in Public Places in Michigan, U.S. Comes Into Effect on May 1Michigan will now unite with other states to implement the ban on smoking in public places. The state will become the 38th state in the United States to bring into effect such a ban. This will come into effect on May 1, 2010.

The ban has elicited mixed reactions. While, some are looking forward to it, others are dismayed that the ban will prohibit them from smoking inside bars and restaurants. Some people even regard this as a snare on their freedom.

Bar and restaurant owners fear that that the ban will have a negative impact on business. If customers are prohibited from smoking inside the restaurants, they will be left with no other alternative but to smoke outside. It is also expected to retard business growth.

However, on the flip side, there are certain businesses that are looking forward to the ban. They are jubilant that the ban will work in the interest of bar and restaurant workers, who have had to inhale second hand smoke for years. This has also come as news of joy, for customers who suffer from asthma, and who have avoided eateries where smoking is uninhibited.
