According to Scientists a new study suggests that an afternoon power nap may boost your ability to process and store information tenfold, but only if you dream while you are asleep. Researchers say that the students dreamed about the maze did poorly on the test around the first time around which may not be a co incidence. The study finings i=underscore just how important sleep is to our memory and mental function which appear in the Journal Current Biology.
Dr. Robert Stick gold of Harvard Medical School, said, “The dreams might reflect the brain's attempt to find associations for the memories that could make them more useful in the future. Dreams may be a marker that the brain is working on the same problem at many levels”. Michael Breus, the clinical director of the sleep division for Arrowhead, in Glendale , Arizona , who was not involved in the study said , “The sleeping brain seems to be processing information on one level, but on a higher level it helps evolve your memory network if the information is relevant or helpful in your life experience,".
The deep slumber is know n as rapid eye movement (REM) is most closely associated with dreaming, the students’ dreaming and learning occurred after as little as one minute of non – REM sleep, The researchers found when they monitored the brain activity of the students while they slept that it doesn’t even need to be a deep sleep.
