Ash from the volcanic eruption, over Iceland, caused cancellation of the flights from UAE to some of the European destinations.
All flights, other than the emergency flights, were banned by Britain in its airspace till 6 am tomorrow where as the airports of Netherlands and Sweden were closed till late this evening.
National Air Traffic Services, managing the British airspace, said, "The cloud of volcanic ash is now spread across the UK and continuing to travel south. In line with international civil aviation policy, no flights other than agreed emergencies are currently permitted in UK controlled airspace."
A dedicated area at the Emirates terminal 3, Dubai, has been earmarked to look after the passengers affected by the cancellation of its flights to U. K. Situation is also being closely monitored.
The volcanic ash, from the volcano below Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull glacier, blew southeast towards Scotland and Norway and there after toward Britain and Scandinavia. Although the ash is not visible from the ground, experts have warned the ash to be very dangerous for the aircrafts as it may clog the aircraft engines and of reduction in the visibility.
Icelandic Airport Authority, Hjordis Gudmundsdottir, said, "The wind is blowing the ash to the east and it's amazing really."
