Australia being one of the most obese nations across the globe has got its health authorities voicing their concern called for restrictions on fast non-healthy food and alcohol advertising.
Australia has more than 60 per cent of obese adults and of adults and 25 per cent children are overweight.
Mike Daube, president of Public Health Association of Australia, said that codes of advertising in OZ ignore the forms of marketing through which children are being exposed to alcohol and junk food, which is dangerous.
This needs to be dealt with when obesity epidemic is predicted to shorten the life spans of our children.
It was important to prohibit direct or incidental marketing. Professor Daube added that for promoting healthier products it was important to levy taxes on alcohol and junk food advertising.
VicHealth chief executive Todd Harper said, "The funding could also be used to provide alternatives to junk food and alcohol sponsorships and to inform consumers about healthier food and beverage products."
