Ray of Hope for 17 Men sentenced to Death in the United Arab Emirates

United Arab EmiratesFor killing a Pakistani man in the United Arab Emirates, 17 Indians were sentenced to death. India is now saying that all kinds of legal help would be provided to all the 17 Indians.

It was told to CNN-IBN by Vayalar Ravi, the Minister of Overseas Affairs, that India would try all the possible ways to help these people and try to verify the charges against them.

"I have given directions to my secretary, my staff to be in touch with the Consular General to gain access, to see that all possible legal assistance is given to file an appeal and to appoint a lawyer for the case”, he said, while adding that the names of the convicted have not been revealed yet.

Ravi also shared that consular access would be gained on Tuesday or Wednesday. The authorities are completely committed to helping the Indians, but Ravi strongly believes that the crime they committed is not defensible.

Last year, Sharjah's Shariah Court sentenced 17 Indians for killing a Pakistani and injuring three others in a deadly attack. The fight took place over the illegal liquor business in Al Sajaa located in Sharjah.

All the men who are sentenced are between the age of 17 and 30.
