Abu Dhabi would soon have the first zero-carbon city in the World which would be a source of inspiration other countries to mitigate the impact of global warming. The city named as Masdar would be completely powered by solar energy, available in plenty in the Gulf city. The eco-city would be free from cars and skyscrapers and every effort is being made for turning it into carbon natural city.
The city would reflect low-carbon living by turning solar energy into its great asset. The city designed by British architects Foster and Partners, would have a university and at least 1,000 business establishments. The project is expected to cost around cost between £10billion and £20 billion to be paid by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
Khaled Awad, the Director of the Masdar project said, "The quality of air will be better than any other street in the Gulf and in the world, and that alone will bring you safety, health and happiness."
A highly efficient team of international engineers have been working to make the optimum use of solar energy for meeting the city’s energy needs. Masdar's Chief architect Gerard Evenden told that the prospective city would be the Silicon Valley of renewable energy.
