WTO members for more efforts to break dialogue gridlock

World-Trade-OrganizationThe members of the World Trade Organization are optimistic of some fruitful outcome of the Doha talks for boosting trade and commercial activities. However, they need to tackle some technical issues for bringing about political consensus to break the stalemate.

The ambassador from a big industrialized country said that things are going worse due to lack of trust and it sidelined major issues for the past six months. WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy asked for the need to pay attention toward substance rather than process for bring a phenomenal change.

Ambassador from another major economy expressed, "The major focus in the new approach would be to move from a situation in which the solution was delegated to a few countries and now it's being recouped by the membership."

The WTO talks are concentrated on the size of tariff cuts on manufactured goods, concessions for some industrial sectors and reservation of some developing countries on farm subsidies. Meanwhile, there are also voices to suspend the current round of talks as a lot of has been changed in past years.
