The new sophisticated radar system called "Sniper", installed in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region has started to give positive results for improving traffic system across the regions. It will help traffic authorities to curb reckless driving making motorists to follow the traffic rules under prescribed speed limits.
Around 400 reckless motorists came under the scanner of the radar and they were fined by the authorities for breaking the traffic rules. Colonel Engineer Ahmad Hussain Al Harthi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols department said that mobile radar that became operational in the starting of March would discourage reckless driving.
Police have already impounded many vehicles moving at the speed above the prescribed limits. Those who violate traffic rules would be awarded harsh punishment for putting their own and life of others at risk.
Warning young population against ‘stunt and racing’ attitude, Al Harthi told, "Reckless drivers not only endangering their own lives, but they endanger lives of other road users." Police recently caught an irresponsible person driving at a speed of 204kmph.
