Abdurrahman Alatiya, the Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council hoped that Darfur peace efforts will take momentum with the signing of the frame work agreement. The deal was signed between Sudanese government, Justice and Equality Movement JEM and Liberation and Justice Movement LJM in March 18 in the esteemed presence of Sudanese Vice-President, Ali Osman Taha, the Prime Minister and Qatar's foreign minister, Al-Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Al-Thani
Alatiya said that regions peace is associated with the stability in Darfur and mutual cooperation by both parties to resolve the issue would surely achieve its long term objectives. He underlined the importance of Qatar's role bringing peace in the disturbed region and enhancing Sudanese-Eritrean relations.
Alatiya urged all Sudanese parties to put their best efforts for resolving the conflict and for establishing a development bank with the help of Qatar and other nations.
Meanwhile, Egypt too hailed the agreement as Egypt's foreign ministry spokesperson, Hussam Zaki expressed, and "We are closely following them up and hope they will lead to peace we are all seeking."
