Dubai restricts schools to hike fees

Dubai-SchoolsSchools in Dubai can not charge extra fees this year as the administration has urged not to put extra burden on parents already facing tough financial position due to global slowdown. The move is seen as a major disappointment for various private schools in Dubai who were eying on hiking fees from the forthcoming academic session.

Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the Dubai based regulator maintained that there is no urgency at this point of time for hiking fees and thus making education dearer in the highly inflationary environment.

The Dubai Private Schools Group, however, told that hiking fees is a need of the hour for imparting quality education and providing quality staff. They urged the regulator to reconsider its decision in the larger interest of quality education.

Group's representative, Ralph Tabberer said that everyone should be ready to share equal financial responsibility. Global slowdown has adversely hit the education sector that needs more financial resources to maintain education quality standards.
