Mirdif City Centre (MCC), a unique green mall of the city, has opened today which would be celebrated with a week of entertainment events. The opening of the green building would prove a millstone in promoting environment friendly buildings in the country which have now become a legal requirement from January 2008.
The mall has become the first building in the Middle-East to get Gold rating from the US Green Building Council for its environment friendly design. Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties, according to their executives, did not care about huge cost while implementing the project.
Peter Walichnowski, the Chief Executive Officer of MAF Properties, told, "Planning from the beginning has made the process more efficient and as the long-term owner, this has become a lifestyle project with an intelligent management system and the money will be recuperated over time."
Jonathan Emery, Senior Vice-President of Project Management at MAF Properties informed that the building, covering 196,000 sq meters, has been prepared using sustainable sources and long-life plastics that would help to reduce energy consumption by 20 per cent.
