New Jersey man linked to al Qaeda, arrested by Yemen

ArrestedThe latest case to join the line of cases involving radicalized American Muslims is the arrest of a New Jersey man accused of joining al Qaeda, in Yemen. Some experts are linking this trend to the duration of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It was in the Yemeni capital, Sana, where American, Sharif Mobley, 26, who had worked for six years as a laborer at nuclear plants in New Jersey was arrested last week by Yemeni authorities, in a sweep of militants tied to the Yemeni branch of al Qaeda and the Somali Al Shabab movement.

Yemeni officials specified that Mobley, when taken to a hospital for medical treatment, allegedly grabbed a gun from a security guard and even shot two guards, one of them fatally, before being subdued.

It was informed Friday by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that it is looking into Mobley's record. Meanwhile, a commission spokeswoman, Diane Screnci said that the agency "is not aware of any security-related concerns or incidents related to Mobley's prior employment."
