The copyright infringement by the Al Mass publishing house at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair cost dearly to the firm as the management has fined and banned the firm from the event for the next five years. The Egyptian publishing house making its first appearance at the event is reportedly violated copyright law by illegally using the contents of CDs and education materials.
Juma'a Al Qubaisi, Director of the Fair expressed, "The violation was proven following the publisher's confession, which prompted an immediate closing down of the stand. We reported the publisher to the Ministry of Economy to take action."
Qubaisi said that copyright violators have no room in the country and the government has already denied entry to 20 publishing houses this year following reports of infringement of copyright act by them. He warned publishing houses against violations and said that infringement could lead to black listing for five years besides a huge amount of fine.
The fair management has been taking stiff measures to check the law violations by taking a number of measures such as conduction surprise check at their stand, deploying inspectors and heeding to the complaints filed by visitors.
