A doctor stated that a shooting rampage inside an office could not kill a Californian woman because of her implants. The woman was wounded however.
Lydia Carranza got a bullet in her chest when at the Family Dental Care Clinic in Simi Valley when a gunman opened fire. Her doctor Dr Ashkan Ghavami, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, said according to him, her implant stopped the bullet from hitting her heart.
"I saw the CT scan. The bullet fragments were millimeters from her heart and her vital organs. Had she not had the implant, she might not be alive today," he said.
A spokeswoman for the hospital that treated Carranza however said that there was no clear evidence about the breast implant having any impact on saving her life. According to a firearms instructor t is possible.
Scott Reitz, a deadly-force expert witness with 30 years' experience in the LAPD, said, "Common sense would dictate that any time you have something that interrupts the velocity of the projectile, it would benefit the object it was trying to strike."
Carranza’s implant was completely Ghavami now plans to perform reconstructive surgery at a reduced cost.
