PopCap Games’ ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ sold 300,000 copies in first nine days!

plants-vs-zombiesSetting a new record for App Store launches, PopCap Games’ ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ version for the iPhone and iPod Touch managed to achieve enviable sales figures of over 300,000 copies in the first nine days after its February
15 release!

The $2.99-priced ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ – which generated $1 million revenue for the Seattle-based PopCap Games within nine days post-launch – rose to the No. 1 slot in terms of copies sold as well as the top-grossing game; before being toppled from the positions yesterday by Triniti Interactive’s ‘All-In-1 Gamebox’ and Gameloft’s ‘Brothers In Arms 2: Global Front’ respectively.

‘Plants vs. Zombies,’ initially launched on the PC and Mac in May last year, is an incredibly addictive game, despite its rather plain illustration in a two-dimensional cartoon mode. Part of the Tower Defense variety of games, ‘Plant vs. Zombies’ essentially allows the players to set their plants up around a house; to be eventually used for defense against waves of attacking Zombies.

Along with announcing the sales feat achieved by the newly-released game, PopCap Games also revealed that its ‘Bejeweled 2’ has become the first paid App Store app to have sold over 3 million units; and has consistently been featuring in the store’s top ten ‘top-grossers’ list – an astounding feat given the fact that the App Store currently boasts more than 150,000 apps!
